Rhythm

"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates." — The Kybalion.

The great fifth principle of rhythm embodies the truth that in everything, there is a to and fro from one pole to the other; a pendulum like movement, a high tide and low tide.

The principle of polarity gives one a prior understanding of this phenomena of rhythm, for polarity is manifested in the all, and therefore, there is always an action and reaction; an advance and a retreat; a rising and a sinking between the two poles.

The law of compensation is in full effect throughout the principle of rhythm, to compensate is to counterbalance from one pole to the other; thus meaning that the swing to the right will counterbalance towards the left.

This is especially important for the mental states of man, for someone who enjoys keenly, is subject to keen suffering; he who feels little pain is capable of feeling little joy.

therefore the principle of rhythm accounts for the succession of moods, feelings, and other perplexing changes we see in ourselves.

practice allows one to grasp this principle and neutralize its effects by applying the mental law of neutralization; the principle of rhythm can never be ceased, although depending on personal mastery, the art of using this principle instead of being used by it is possible.

The hermetic masters discovered that within man's mental state exist two planes of consciousness, the lower and the higher, the unconscious and the conscious; understanding this fact allows them to rise to the higher plane to avoid the rhythmic swing backwards, essentially standing firm in their desired pole and consciously refusing to participate in the pendulum swing.

As rhythm can never be ceased, it still swings along the unconscious mental plane, although it leaves no influence on the moods, feelings or behaviour of the conscious hermetic student or master.

The swing of the pendulum is ever in evidence, for rhythm is manifested between the poles in all things; from universes, to suns, worlds, men, animals, plants, minerals, forces, energy, mind, matter and even spirit.

This principle accounts for the creation and destruction of universes, suns, worlds, the rise and fall of nations, the mental states of man, etc.

as described in the principle of vibration, nothing is at rest and everything from corpuscles, atoms, molecules, and all masses of matter swing around the circle of their nature, for there is no such thing as absolute rest or cessation from movement.

for me, rhythm has helped me greatly in the organisation of my life, through schedules, routines, rest, etc.

instead of getting thrown around with the rhythmic pendulum, i have learned to embrace it by foreseeing it; thus the balance within me has grown stronger, and instead of wondering why my emotions have changed degree, i acknowledge this great law and neutralize it by remaining consciously aware.

rhythm also accounts for the days of the week, which all radiate a different flow of energy. moving with the energy that is predominant on the day creates less resistance, just like a fish that swims with the flow doesn't use as much energy as one that's fighting the current.

Monday is moon day (sensitive & unstable)
Tuesday is Mars day (fiery assertive energy)
wednesday is mercury day (communication, thinking & decision energy)
thursday is jupiter day (expansion, learning & adventurous energy)
Friday is venus day (love & harmonious energy)
Saturday is saturn day (responsible, goal orientated energy)
Sunday is the sun's day (self-reflecting energy)

the above should give you a basic understanding about the energy of the days, helping you create order with your life, around the principle of rhythm.

Also, It's important to understand how the junction of the planets also influence mental behaviours, impacting the whole of society, governments, beliefs, revolutions, etc.

By understanding this principle, one will work their way up to consciously neutralize the rhythmic pendulum swing which is present in all.

mastery of this principle can take some time, although a basic understanding will give one the knowledge and foreseeing ability to neutralize, predict, or accept the inevitable swing which occurs in everything.
